Rolling Thunder 2002

Spring has finally sprung and I am looking forward to another riding season of fun and memories with the Frederick chapter. It has become a tradition for Steve and I to participate in the Rolling Thunder ride each May.

May of 2002 was the first year we participated and what a blast! We rode to the dealership on a cloudy and chilly morning to find the lot more than half full of bikes by 7:30 am.

The ride to the Pentagon went off without a hitch thanks to the police escort. The early morning clouds burned off by 11am and boy did it get hot!

Baloons are released to signal the start of the parade

The parade started at noon but due to so many bikes at the Pentagon; we did not leave the parking lot until 3pm.

It was such an emotional journey riding down Pennsylvania Ave to the cheers and clapping of so many patriots along the parade route.

This is a very important day for me because I come from a Military family. My father was a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War and served his country for 33 years. My husband is a Gulf War veteran whose military career abruptly ended after an accident overseas that permanently retired him from the service after 14 years in the Army.

My yearly trip to Rolling Thunder on Memorial Day weekend is my way of thanking my father, my husband and all veterans for their service to this wonderful country.

Amy & Steve

I am one of the lucky ones who’s loved ones survived War. This year, 2004, will be a very special Memorial Day with the dedication of the WWII memorial.

I hope you will come and join us this year for a great cause and a great ride!
